Lighting Tips

There are three categories of  lighting:

1. General Lighting
Also known as ambient lighting, general lighting is essential in any lighting
plan. It provides overall illumination enabling one to see and walk about safely. It
can be accomplished with chandeliers, ceiling or wall mounted fixtures, recessed
or track lights, and with lanterns outside your home.

2. Task Lighting

Helps you perform specific tasks such as reading, sewing, cooking, homework,
hobbies, games, or balancing your check book. It can be provided by recessed and
track lighting, pendant lighting and portable lamps. Task lighting should be free
of distracting glare and shadows and should be bright enough to prevent eyestrain.

3. Accent Lighting

Adds drama to a room by creating visual interest. As part of your decorating
scheme, it can be used to spotlight paintings, house plants, sculpture and other
prized possessions, or to highlight the texture of a wall, drapery or outdoor
landscaping. Accent lighting requires at least three times as much light on the focal
point as the general lighting around it. This is usually provided by track, recessed
or wall mounted fixtures.

*Change your fluorescent light bulbs about once a year. They may still be working but they are not working at full potential and will eventually burn out the ballast.

*To save energy, change the bulb on lights outside your door to a compact fluorescent. On a light that normally has a 100 watt bulb in it and is lit 12 hours a night you can actually save $30.00 a year on that one bulb.

The best move you can do is!

Why LEDs Lights

Times are tough, saving energy means saving money. Here's what you do to help yourself!

Lower electric

We hope that more people adopt this attitude towards their lighting. Once we all look at LED lights the same way we do at appliances and tools that are not so quickly disposable - that will last as long as their fixtures - it's easier to look past the upfront costs and recognize the lifelong savings. With the rapid evolution of LED technology, we're already seeing prices fall steadily. But for significant change to take place, consumers are going to have to think outside the bulb.

LED lighting shares a ranking with solar paneling, building insulation, and hybrid vehicles as environmentally sustainable investments that often come with admittedly high sticker shock. Though these expenses are accompanied by guarantees to pay for themselves in energy savings over time, even consumers who really want to go green can have trouble justifying these purchases.

When most people think of lighting, the traditional Edison-style 60Watt A-Lamp incandescent light bulb comes to mind. This is the model that people are comfortable shopping for, the icon that LED lighting

* Read bathroom lighting

In bathrooms it's best to have a light over vanity as well as an overhead light so you don't cast shadows on your face when you look in the mirror.
